Glass Installation

We fit perforated one-way vision film to shopfront and office glass with careful surface preparation, neat edge finishing and a method that suits busy sites. From Montague Gardens to Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha, our team handles measuring, printing, fitting and aftercare for glass and vehicle windows.

Glass Installation

Clean glass, correct film and proper edge finishing

Glass installation starts long before the film touches the pane. We check the glass type, measure the visible area, confirm the perforation ratio and plan the print so the outside graphic reads clearly while the inside view stays usable. Common perforation ratios include 70/30 and 80/20, with the choice guided by how much privacy, daylight and outward visibility the site needs. For street-facing shopfronts in Cape Town, windy corners in Bellville or office glass in Pretoria, the aim is the same: clean lines, good adhesion and a finish that holds up in daily use.

The graphic is printed on the outside face of the film and laminated where extra protection is needed against scuffing and UV exposure. On glass, the film is applied to a fully cleaned, degreased surface and squeegeed down to remove air and moisture. Corners and joins are trimmed carefully so the final edge sits neat and doesnt lift early. On vehicle windows, the fit has to respect the shape of the glass and the legal driver view requirements, so we always advise clients to check the current road traffic rules before use.

What our glass installation service includes

Our glass installation service is set up for retailers, offices, clinics, showrooms and fleet owners who need the job done with minimum disruption. The process can include site measuring, artwork setup, colour proofing, wide format printing, film lamination, surface preparation, glass installation and old film removal. Where required, we also handle refit and refresh work for premises that are updating an old graphic or replacing damaged film.

  • On-site measuring for shopfronts, internal office glass and entrance panels
  • Assessment of glass condition, sealant lines and any silicone residue
  • Old film removal where the existing layer is peeling or fading
  • Surface preparation using approved cleaning and decontamination steps
  • Printed perforated film supplied to the chosen ratio and panel layout
  • Neat fitting with edge trimming, alignment checks and final inspection

In Montague Gardens our base team works with businesses that need practical turnaround and minimal downtime. Ayanda Mbele handles sales queries, Liam Maseko manages print production, Noluthando Liebenberg coordinates installations, Ridwaan Hlongwane works on vehicle graphics and Chantel Fortuin supports clients through the enquiry process. Marius Ntsele oversees the overall job flow and makes sure the fitting plan suits the site and the use case.

How the fitting process works on site

Every installation starts with a check of the window size, frame condition and access around the glass. If the pane has dust, grease, tape residue or silicone, the surface is cleaned again because even a small patch can affect adhesion. We then position each panel, check alignment against mullions or window breaks, and apply the film with steady pressure from the centre outward. For larger shopfronts, this is done in sections so the final finish stays straight across the full run.

After application, the film is left to settle and the installer checks for bubbles, lift points and any trapped moisture. Small wet marks can appear during curing and usually disappear as the film bonds to the glass. In coastal areas like Milnerton and Durban, where humidity is higher, curing can take a bit longer and we tell clients to avoid washing the glass too early. That extra patience helps the film settle correctly and reduces the chance of edge lift later.

  • Prepare the glass and protect nearby frames, floors and counters
  • Dry fit or mark each panel before final application
  • Apply the film with controlled pressure and heat where needed
  • Trim edges and inspect corners, joins and handle cut-outs
  • Explain curing time and care steps before sign-off

Turnaround, dispatch and fitting across South Africa

Turnaround depends on the size of the glass area, whether old film must be removed, and how many panels need printing. A single storefront panel may be turned around faster than a full row of office windows or a mixed vehicle and shopfront order. We supply from Montague Gardens and dispatch nationwide, with regular service coverage for Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Gqeberha. Bellville and Milnerton are also part of our local supply route, which helps with shorter lead times for nearby businesses.

For urgent retail openings or rebranding work, we try to schedule measuring and installation in sequence so the job moves cleanly from artwork approval to fitting. Where the site is busy, we can split the work into off-peak windows so staff and customers are not disturbed. If a client needs a refit after damage, tint change or a new brand message, we remove the old film first and prep the glass again before the new panel goes on.

Pricing approach and what affects the quote

We price glass installation according to measured area, film ratio, print coverage, access conditions and the amount of preparation needed. A simple, ground-floor shopfront with clean glass is easier to fit than a high-window office run or a panel with old adhesive residue. Vehicle window work can also vary because curved glass, rear screens and legal visibility requirements call for careful planning and more fitting time.

Because every site is different, we quote from actual measurements rather than guessing. That keeps the work accurate and avoids surprises once the panels arrive on site. The client enquiry form on the contact page is the best way to start, especially if the job needs site measuring, artwork setup or a refresh of an existing installation. We then confirm the scope, the glass count and the preferred service area before production begins.

  • Measured square metreage or panel count
  • Printing method, coverage and colour density
  • Lamination needs for protection and handling
  • Removal of old film, adhesive or sign residue
  • Access requirements, height and site conditions

Care, maintenance and when to replace the film

Once the film is fitted, basic care keeps it looking tidy for longer. We advise clients to avoid washing the glass for the initial curing period, then use a soft cloth, mild cleaner and light pressure when cleaning. Strong abrasives, blades and harsh solvents should be avoided because they can scratch the print or dull the laminate. For offices and shopfronts with heavy sun exposure, a regular wipe-down every few weeks helps keep the graphic legible and the glass neat.

Replacement timing depends on sun, traffic and how much use the glass gets. A busy retail frontage in Cape Town may need freshening sooner than a quiet internal partition, while vehicle windows can show wear sooner because of road dust and regular opening and closing. We suggest checking the edges, corners and printed face at routine intervals so any lift or fade can be addressed before it spreads. That kind of practical care saves time later and keeps the window looking tidy.

Window film questions

Can perforated one-way vision film be fitted to most glass types?

It can usually be fitted to standard smooth glass, shopfront panes and many vehicle windows, provided the surface is clean and suitable for adhesion. We check the glass first and advise if the site needs extra prep.

How long does the installation take?

Timing depends on the size of the job, access and whether old film must be removed. A small panel may be fitted quickly, while a full shopfront or vehicle set takes longer because of measuring, printing and alignment.

Do vehicle window films have to stay within legal visibility rules?

Yes. Vehicle window film must keep the driver view legal, and clients should check the current road traffic rules before fitting. We can help with practical layout choices, but compliance stays important.
